Cat Caught Smuggling Phone Into Prison.

Prison guards were said to have been surprised when they saw a white cat crossing the main gate of the prison, its body wrapped with tape.

A closer look showed the feline was also carrying drill bits, earphones, a memory card, batteries and a phone charger.

All 263 detainees at the prison of Arapiraca, a city of 215,000 people in the state of Alagoas, are considered suspects in the plot, which is being investigated by local police.
"It's tough to find out who's responsible for the action as the cat doesn't speak," a prison spokesperson told local paper Estado de S Paulo.
The cat was taken to an animal disease centre to receive medical care.
The incident took place on January 1, but was first reported by national media on Saturday.

Armed Robbers Terrorize Region, Kill Seven.

KANO — Suspected armed robbers terrorizing North-West zone of the country raided three villages, killing at least seven people and wounding seven more in Zamfara State.

Zamfara State Information Commissioner, Ibrahim Birnin Magaji, said, Sunday, that the attacks focused on the villages of Akuzo, Makera and Usu in the rural region adding that the gunmen attacked the villages, Saturday morning, as people left the mosque following morning prayers.

The assault seemed to be the work of a violent gang blamed for several mass casualty attacks in the region in recent months as they specialize in raiding rural villages in Zamfara and neighbouring Kaduna State.

In June, gunmen killed at least 27 people in Zamfara State in attacks on villages preparing for a local market day. Another 20 were killed in an October attack.

King Sunny Ade's guitarist nabbed with cocaine

Fatoke Abiodun, Nigeria’s veteran guitarist, who played alongside legendary musician, King Sunny Ade for three decades, has been arrested with cocaine, the anti-drug agency said on Saturday.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said that Abiodun was arrested on 1 January while attempting to board an Air France flight to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

“We have made the first arrest in the new year. The suspect, a guitarist by name Fatoke Abiodun was found with 1.575kg of cocaine. The drug was discovered in the false bottom of his luggage during the outward screening of passengers to Italy,” said ,NDLEA Commander the Lagos Airport, Mr Hamza Umar
The agency said the 62-year old grandfather with four wives and many children, is helping narcotic investigators handling the case.
“Fatoke has owned up to the alleged crime blaming his involvement on financial hardship,” said the agency’s spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju.
NDLEA quoted Fatoke as saying: “I played for King Sunny Ade for 30 years before I was unceremoniously retired in 2007. I was unprepared and without severance money I saw the bitter side of life.”
He said his drug trafficking attempt is his first as he did it out of frustration.
“Because at my age I could not provide for my family. I am ashamed of myself,” he was quoted as saying.
NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade described the involvement of Fatoke in drug trafficking as sad and disappointing.
“It is sad and disappointing for a grandfather to be involved in drug trafficking. This is a bad legacy to his children. This is a good start for the agency in the year and a sign that the days ahead will be tough for drug traffickers. The agency will continue to handle every case in accordance with the NDLEA Act,” Giade was quoted as saying.
The suspect will be charged to court for unlawful exportation and possession of narcotics, NDLEA said.

If convicted, he could spend the next 25 years in prison custody.”

Professor Maurice Iwu, others record breakthrough in HIV/AIDS treatment.

As the world continued to battle with efforts aimed at finding cure to HIV/AIDS, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced another breakthrough in the treatment of the disease with the discovery of an oral botanical drug, Crofelemer.

The new drug is  the second botanical, and an orally administered drug to be approved by FDA since 2006.

The latest breakthrough owes its success to a pioneering research carried out in the United States by a team of scientists including Nigeria’s Professor Maurice Iwu, an acclaimed pharmacologist and tropical medicine expert.
The first botanical drug to be approved in the United States was a topical green tea extract, Veregen, in 2006. Both botanical drugs meet all US pharmaceutical requirements and can be dispensed only by prescription.
However, ‘’Crofelemer is the first drug to be approved in the United States to treat HIV -associated diarrhea. It is derived from the latex of the South American sangre de drago tree (dragon’s blood, Croton lechleri). A red, blood-resembling latex leaks from the tree when its bark is cut, and it is this substance that contains the novel polymolecular structure crofelemer, originally developed and standardized by Shaman Pharmaceuticals. Fulyzag is the second botanical drug approved by the agency. The drug’s approval marks an important event in the decades-long history of crofelemer.’’
The latest ‘’Healthnews,’’ in a report entitled, ‘’Nigeria’s Maurice Iwu, others record breakthrough in HIV/AIDS treatment: Amazon tree-derived medicine cleared for usage in HIV patients with diarrhea,’’ stated, ‘’On New Year’s Eve of 2012, the US Food and Drug Administration  announced its approval of crofelemer, marking the second time a botanical, and the first time an orally administered botanical, has received drug approval from the Administration. The first botanical drug to be approved in the United States was a topical green tea extract, Veregen in 2006. Both botanical drugs meet all US pharmaceutical requirements and can be dispensed only by prescription.

There's a video of the report after the cut...but please be warned...the images are quite disturbing...

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina while parading the suspect, Chief Hosea Folorunsho, at the state command headquarters, Lokoja-the state capital, disclosed that on the 31st of December 2012, the herbalist killed his son for alleged ritual.

Ba completes transfer to Chelsea

Demba Ba has completed his transfer to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee on a 3-1/2-year contract, the club’s website (www.chelseaafc.com) said on Friday.

The former Newcastle striker, who is the joint third highest Premier League goal scorer this season, will be eligible for Chelsea’s FA Cup tie at Southampton on Saturday the club said.

“It feels good to be here, I’m very happy and very proud,” the 27-year-old Senegalese forward said.

“When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision is very easy. This club is massive and that’s something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one.”

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League after losing at home to bottom club Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday.

Kevin-Prince Boateng on racist chanting: I'd walk off again!

Kevin-Prince Boateng says he would walk off the field again if subjected to racist abuse.
Boateng's AC Milan side walked out of a friendly after he was subjected to racist chants by fans of Italian lower division club Pro Patria.
In an interview with CNN,  Boateng, 25, said: "I don't care what game it is - a friendly, Italian league or Champions League match - I would walk off again."
Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi praised Boateng for his stand against racism.
Racist abuse should be reported to the match officials by the player and team captain. If the abuse does continue the officials should abandon the game.
Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister, had earlier stated that Milan would take the same stance in any other game, including European matches.
He said in a statement: "I called Kevin-Prince Boateng a little while ago and congratulated him for his reaction against the disgraceful episode of racism that took place in Busto Arsizio.
"I am very happy with Milan's reaction and be assured that in all games where we experience episodes of this kind, Milan will leave the field."
Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, has warned players they could find themselves in trouble if they walk off before the referee decides to abandon a match.
"Racist abuse should be reported to the match officials by the player and team captain, and then the crowd warned," said Taylor. "If the abuse does continue then the officials should abandon the game.
"The warning will also be an opportunity for responsible fans to influence those who are perpetrating the abuse."
Fifa and Uefa, the world and European governing bodies of football, have previously warned against players walking off the field of play.
In Busto Arsizio, a 20-year-old unemployed man was reported to prosecutors for his alleged involvement in the racist chants that caused the friendly to be abandoned.
The man is said to have admitted to being part of a group of fans who directed abuse at the players.
Boateng, the German-born Ghana international who previously played for Portsmouth and Tottenham, has been widely praised for his action, which came in the 26th minute of the friendly.
He said he was grateful for the solidarity he received after leading the walk-off.
"I saw massive support from England and massive players like Rio Ferdinand and Patrick Vieira, and I want to say thank you. I'm sad and angry that I'm the one that has to take action." he said.
Boateng said he complained to the referee three times before he and his team-mates walked off the field.
I'm surprised we're still hearing these things in 2013. It's not the first time in my life I've had to hear things like this but I'm 25 and don't want to take this any more
Kevin-Prince Boateng
"I said to [the referee]: 'If it happens again I'm not going to play any more.' The referee said 'don't worry' but I said 'I do worry, it's not very nice'," he said.
"I was angry and I was sad, but it all came together and I said I didn't want to play any more.
"I'm surprised we're still hearing these things in 2013. It's not the first time in my life I've had to hear or see things like this but I'm 25 and don't want to take this any more."
His former team-mate Clarence Seedorf disagreed with Boateng's actions, however.
The former Netherlands international said: "Walking away? Yes, you send a signal. But this has happened more than once and I don't think it really changes all that much.
"We are just empowering that little group with their behaviour to make this mess."
Tony Higgins, the spokesman on anti-racism for Fifpro, the international footballers' union, said that the union "fully understands and supports the actions of Kevin-Prince Boateng and his team-mates".
He added: "The players of Milan sent a clear message: if racism does not stop, then football will.
"We have to draw a line. Kevin-Prince Boateng is also a human being. He is entitled to a working environment free of violence, racism and other forms of discrimination.
"Imagine yourself at work and someone standing right next to you is constantly insulting you in the worst way possible. Would you accept that?"

An Open Letter To Tonto Dikeh By Onyeka Nwelue

Dear Tonto Dikeh,

I know you feel beautiful this morning! Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. For me, you are nowhere near ‘beautiful’. You are just there. But before I tell you what I really want to tell you, I need to tell you something. There is a lady called Adele. She is a singer. She sings. I need to explain what a singer means, because I understand that you have no brain at all. Because I hate sugar-coating, I am hated by a lot of people. You are just like me too. I will understand when people hate you, but, seriously, if you think Igbo men are nosy, then, you are right. That is your opinion and you must protect it.

I am an Igbo man. I will defend myself right now. Back to Adele. I will tell you everything about this young lady who transformed herself into something very beautiful in the eyes of men. I also understand that you don’t know her, but it won’t hurt if I tell you about her now. This is what TIME magazine wrote about her few days ago: “As talented and appealing as she is, few could foresee how utterly dominant Adele would be in 2011: in an era where even the highest-tier musical acts can struggle to move records, her sophomore effort, 21, sold 17 million copies worldwide and spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, the longest for any record since 1998's Titanic sound track. Combined with sales of her previous album, 19, Adele has topped the U.K. charts for 21 weeks — a feat matched only by the bands Oasis and Queen.” Tonto nne m, Adele is 23. You are older. She is not worried about her future. You are. She is focused about her music.

You are worried that no Igbo man will marry you after you’ve created yourself into a bamboo stick. Truth is that I don’t know you personally, but you’ve created a strong mystery around yourself. People see you as a soul from hell. They say you’ve sold your soul to the devil. Me, I don’t know where the devil lives, but I think you have. You even went ahead to show us tattoos at your back. I just didn’t understand why you did that. As an Igbo man, I will never marry a woman who has shown the entire world ‘my tattoos.’ It is not good. I am an Igbo man, so I will
need to know who snapped the picture. Maybe, your secret boyfriend? This is the reason why we are bad, abi? Adele doesn’t go around seeking attention. She doesn’t pay anyone to publish pictures of her tattoos. Who knows? She may just have a lot of them. I haven’t seen them. I have seen yours.

There is nothing wrong in you tattooing your entire body, but what is my business with that? Are you not supposed to be an actress? Of course, I understand that you appear in pornographic films now? That is good. At least, you are doing what you know best. But to pick on Igbo men? This is very unacceptable. You insulted a lot of us. This simply shows how unintelligent you are towards anthropology. Men are the same all over the world. Igbo man, Yoruba man, Hausa man. We all treat women in similar ways. We love unconditionally. And we all become nosy when our women start acting like you. If your father is an Igbo man, dearest Tonto Dikeh, you are a monkey. But I will be sorry if you didn’t say that. I only rely on the media, since I don’t know you
personally. If you didn’t say it, Tonto, I am very sorry. I will publicly apologise. Yet, I believe you did, because you do so many things after marijuana. If it’s not good for your brain, stop smoking. Listen to Adele’s Someone Like You and you will feel good.

I don’t look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Onyeka Nwelue

Woman Jumps Off Moving Train To Escape Molesters In Bihar, India!

A woman is in critical condition after jumping off a speeding express train in order to escape a pair of molesters in Bihar, India.

According to the Times of India, the woman was leaving the restroom when she was accosted by a man who forcibly tried to enter the stall with her. After a short struggle, she lept from the train when it slowed down near Jagjiwan Halt, near Ara. She was taken to Sadar Hospital, where she is being treated for injuries to her head and legs, the Hindustan Times reports.

The alleged molester has been identified as Rakesh Kumar and was apprehended on the train by a fellow passenger. A second man, also an army soldier, is believed to have participated in the attempted assault. The International Business Times notes that he fled to another rail car during the chaos involving Kumar.

The victim, a woman in her thirties from Darjeeling, was traveling New Jalpaiguri to Delhi when the incident occurred. According to the Times of India, she is the mother of 13-year-old twins.

India's railways are notorious for their overcrowding and prevalence of sexual assault. Back in July, a 19-year-old woman was thrown from a running train as she tried to escape four attackers, NBS news reported.

Thursday's incident occurred on the same day that India's top law enforcement official called for a crackdown on crimes against women. The country is currently in a state of unrest as protests rage in light of the tragic gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman from New Delhi.

Nigerian student, (Kevin Lakoju) allegedly commits suicide in India

According to The Times of India, a 28-year-old Nigerian student allegedly committed suicide after jumping off the second floor of his rented accommodation in Sector 41. Police said preliminary probe suggests that the deceased, Kelvin Lakoju, aka 'Biggie' was in depression.

Kelvin had been living in Noida since 2009 and was pursuing a photography course from an institute in Film City. Cops said he jumped off around 11pm on Wednesday January 2nd.
"We have questioned some people and came to know that he was upset for some reasons," said deputy SP, S Chinappa.
"His friends said Kelvin was good at studies. Some personal problem could be the reason for committing suicide," said a senior police officer.

Some sources do however allege that Kevin was pushed, others say he was killed then pushed. The Nigerian Embassy and the deceased's family have been informed about the incident. It is hoped that Nigerian authorities in India will do some investigation into the alleged suicide, and hopefully corroborate the suicide story, if indeed it was a suicide.

First Class Unemployed Graduate Advertises On Billboard in a Desperate Bid to Find a Job.

Adam Pacitti dreamed up the idea after sending off at least 250 CVs and only getting two interviews

No one can deny that the job market is bleak for many.
Thousands of unemployed people spend their days tirelessly filling out application forms, composing cover letters, and trying to think of a creative answer to 'what would you say your weaknesses are in the workplace?'
And after unsuccessfully applying for countless positions, Adam Pacitti had had enough - and spent his last £500 on a billboard asking employers to give him a job.

Adam Pacitti came up the idea after sending off at least 250 CVs and only getting two interviews
The 24-year-old dreamed up the way of promoting himself, and his talents, three months ago, after sending out his CV for at least 250 different positions.
Adam, who lives with his family on the Isle of Wight, said he wanted to add something extra to his application - and as video CVs are now a popular form of a applying for jobs, decided to go a little bigger.

Graduate Adam Pacitti is hopeful someone will give him a job

He said: 'I thought traditional advertising could work to promote it. It's a very striking image and I thought news outlets would be able to cover it easily.'

He said: 'After posting, I had about ten re-Tweets in an hour.
Now, after creating the website employadam.com, and yesterday posting the billboard and Tweeting the image, the would-be producer has watched his campaign for employment go viral in less than 24 hours.
'Then my phone exploded, and now I've had over 7,000 re-Tweets.

'I'm incredibly humbled that people have seen I've thought outside the box, and then shared this with others.'

After graduating this year with a First Class Honours degree in Media Production from the University of Winchester, the student worked in an arcade, filling the two-pence machines and stacking toys.
He said: 'I was grateful to have a job, but it's not something I'd really like to do.
'I came up with the idea for the video and billboard about three months ago, and managed to save up £500 while working.
'I called in favours from friends and asked studios, and made the video, and decided to post the billboard in London, because that's where most of the jobs are.'

ADAM PACITTI, MEDIA GRADUATE

AGE: 24
EDUCATION: 2009-2012 University of Winchester
BA Media Production First Class Honours.
WORK EXPERIENCE: 2011 Jet Videos
Runner whose tasks included answering phones and buying props.
2010-11 Hospital Broadcasting Association
Presented a weekly show with phone-ins.
2007 Solent TV
Runner liaising with actors, police and public.
EMPLOYMENT: 2008-11 Gailygain Ltd.
Maintenance technician installing coin-operated amusement machines.
2007 Sumomedia
Assistant manager in charge of small team.
2004-07 Woolworths
Supervisor.
Adam said he was forced to come up with the unusual approach after spending six hours a day filling out application forms.
He said: 'It's like a job in itself, it's difficult - you have to tailor your CV to each job, you're often asked to do a video project - and I only had two interviews after sending off my application.
'It can be disheartening applying for so many job and not getting anywhere.
'I have a good degree and relevant work experience, but others have more experience than me, so perhaps I don't look like the most attractive candidate.
'I thought this would be a way of showing my personality and my experience.'
Adam, who says his strengths are production, advertising, good taste of mainstream television and a strong knowledge of social media and advertising, says his dream job would be a junior producer.

He said: 'If I could get that job with an independent production company or broadcaster, I'd be over the moon.'
The creative student says after the campaign he has had some emails from companies, but no concrete of a job offer yet - but is hopeful his campaign will persuade someone to give him a chance.

Writing below the Facebook post, Alicia – who is the professional photographer of the family – wrote: “This was 10 weeks ago when I was having my C-Section and Dr.Sawyer broke my water…and my daughter reached out of my stomach and grabbed the Dr’s finger and my hubby caught this special moment.”

Incredible, isn't it?

My Dad Impregnated Me Twice – Teenager Alleges.

The Human Right department of Ilemba Hausa Police Division, in Ojo area of Lagos has arrested a 49- year-old man who allegedly had been having carnal knowledge of his teenaged daughter for five years.

It was discovered during investigation that his daughter Janet(not real name)got pregnant in the process twice, only for her father to allegedly ab*rt the pregnancy with the aid of a herbalist.

Sitting at a corner in the Human Rights Office, 17-year-old Janet could not raise her head to face her father, Wale Akinusi, who was also there. When approached, she simply stated that at last, she had been freed from the psychological trauma associated with her father’s sacrilegious act.

Crime Alert gathered that Janet’s tale of woe started after her mother abandoned her barely when she was two-year-old for her paternal grandmother.

It was gathered that her mother who was then a Junior Secondary 3 student, was impregnated by Wale who was 32 years old. Initially, he reportedly denied paternity of the pregnancy but later opted for an ab*rtion on the ground that he could not afford to father a child then because he was only an apprentice.

But his mother came to the rescue as she offered to take care of the baby who turned out to be Janet.

But when she was 12, her father, reportedly took her from her grandmother, with a promise to give
her a better education.

Rather than live up to his promise, her father, allegedly use her to satisfy his s–xual urge, a practice that went on until he was arrested.

Narrating how it all started, Janet in her sitting position with her head bowed all through, said: “When I was leaving my grandmother’s house, I was happy because my father said I would be attending a better school. But I waited for months without being enrolled in any school.

“One night, then, I was 12,my dad called me into his room and told me he took an oat with my mother to be the first man to sleep with me. He said it had a spiritual connotation and that it was to enable him assume his proper financial state.

“Then, I was too young to understand what he meant. He had carnal knowledge of me that night. At a point, he asked if it was painful. All I did was to watch him have his way, still unable to understand what he was doing.”

First pregnancy aborted by a herbalist
“It continued until I was 14 years. Then, I started having a funny feeling. I told him I was sick and when we conducted a pregnancy test, it was positive. Next day, he told me we were going somewhere and we ended up in the home of a herbalist in Ikorodu, who gave me some concoction. I drank some in his apartment and took the rest home. After two days, my menstruation started and my father assured me all was well.

He only gave me a week’s break before he continued all over again. Two years later, when I was 16 years, I got sick again. When I informed daddy, we went for another pregnancy test which confirmed my fear; I was pregnant again!

When he returned next day from his shop, he told me there was no need to go to the herbalist. Rather he gave me two sachets of Alabukun and squeezed some lime juice into a cup, asking me to take it in a gulp. It did the magic and the menstrual flow started few days later.”

“After the second ab*rtion, I became tired of the whole thing. I started being afraid every night. At times, I would put tissue paper under my panties , pretending I was witnessing my monthly flow. After a while, he got the trick, for he started taking note of the date.
Challenges father

“I summoned courage and reported the sacrilegious act to our neighbors. But none of them could confront him. Rather they told me they could not interfere into our family affair” , she stated, with her head still bent.

Apparently discouraged by the cold reaction from the neighbors, Janet decided to take the bull by the horn. Looking straight into his father’s eyes for the very first time since the sacrilegious act started, she told her father she was tired of the whole thing. To make do her threat, she reportedly rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and threatened to stab him if he attempted to force her.

“This happened on November 28, 2012. My father had come home from his shop . And at about 6pm, he called me inside to warm his bed. But when he saw the knife, he retraced his steps. I quickly ran inside my room , with the knife in my hand and packed my things out of the house, to stay with a friend whose family welcomed me after I narrated all that has been going on in the past five years.”

“After spending three weeks with them, I received a text message from my father, asking me to come home, or I would die. When I showed the text message to the family I was putting up with, they suggested I reported the case to the police. I hesitated at first because I was scared he would be jailed.
“But I changed my mind when the text message threat continued”, she said.

I did that to appease the gods – father
When approached, it was obvious that 49-year-old Wale Akinusi, a fashion designer who hails from Ondo central in Ondo state was oblivious of the legal implication of the offense, as he showed no sign of remorse.

He bluntly told this reporter that what he did was not new under the sun, adding that this would not be the first time such story would be published on the pages of newspapers.

“It is not a new thing that a man is sleeping with his daughter and even if I am jailed at the end, I will surely come out after serving my jail term. But I promise that my daughter will join me” he threatened, dismissing the issue with a wave of the hand.

Continuing, he said: “I went back to claim my child so as to fulfill the oat made between her mother and I. That was why I took her to the herbalist when she was pregnant, so as to appease the gods of her mother’s land. You will not understand.

“You see, when her mother was six months pregnant, we made love. She later told me that it was a taboo for a man to sleep with a pregnant woman in her place. She said the only remedy was for the man to be the first person to sleep with the child.

“I initially did not want to do it. But along the line, I discovered that things were not going on well with me financially. And when I made inquiry, I was made to understand that I had to appease the god’s of her mother’s land, so as to attain my rightful place in destiny.”
Asked why he continued after the first time, he kept mute. Also asked why he did not satisfy his sexual urge on his wife who has had four children for him, he explained that they were leaving apart.

“My wife lives in Ketu with the children while I live in Ojo. I had to live apart because I do not want my wife and children to suffer the consequences of my sin. Also I did not want my wife to know I was sleeping with my own daughter”, he said.

Meanwhile, effort according to sources at the Human Rights department, was on to arrest the herbalist who allegedly gave Janet the concoction that aborted her first pregnancy, while her father would be charged to court.
